Happy Foods = Happy You!!

A nutritious, balanced diet is the key to good health and longevity.. But did you know that some foods actually enhance mood and help maintain those all - important feel-good vibes?!!

Soooo.....Eating for happiness - as well as your health - should be your primary goal!!

To obtain the sustenance you need, include the following foods in your diet...

1. Foods high in Omega 3..i.e. oily fish, nuts, flax seeds. Omega 3 has been scientifically proven to reduce depression and increase happiness. Try also to take a daily supplement too but dont over do it!!
2. Foods rich in tryptophan.. i.e. lobster, turkey, pineapple, tofu, bananas. Tryptophan is converted by the body into the feel-good chemical serotonin, which increases your well-being
3. Foods with plenty of amino-acids..i.e. chicken, turkey fish, cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, nuts, milk, pulses, bananas, avocados wheat germ and legumes. These foods help maintain correct amino acid levels, essential in balancing your mood
4. Foods which raise vitamin B levels..i.e. spinach, peas, orange juice, wheat germ or avocado. Solid vitamin B levels help safeguard yourself against depression
5. Whole grains such as oats, quinoa or brown rice contain B vitamins to ensure the slow release of sugars needed to maintain well being
6. Carbohydrates, such as cereals, rice, pasta and starchy vegetables provide slow energy release to maintain a balanced metabolism
7. Regular “energy snacks” such as fruit, cereal, seeds and nuts help maintain energy levels and good mood throughout the day.

TIP : Instead of reading this and then popping it in the bin...why not print it out and stick it on your fridge and keep a copy as a basis for your shopping list!!

Remember .....reading it might make you feel better for a few minutes but actually eating the food will do you far more good!!

Do You Have The Right Mindset for Success?

What Do You Think Is the Best Way to Increase Your Chances of Success?

Two people who are looking to achieve the same goal, can often be approaching it with entirely different "Mindsets"... A Mindset is the way we look out at the world and process information.

Did you know that we all have very different mindsets...ways of thinking about the goals we are pursuing and ways of looking at the world around us..  However...it is a fact that we can change our Mindsets based on the way we choose to look at the world and there are some mindsets that are particularly useful in helping us reach our goals and be more successful!

Soooo.....Do You Have the "Be Great" Mindset or the "Getting Better" Mindset?

The "Be Great" Mindset is what you think about when you are trying "to prove yourself"...you are trying to prove to yourself or others that you have "ability"....that you are already "clever".. that you are already "creative" that you are already "talented" and that you have what it takes to succeed!!

However, in the "Getting Better" Mindset, you can be pursuing the same goals but you will think about a goal as an "opportunity" to improve your abilities..  Therefore you are thinking about it in terms not of "proving yourself" but in terms of "improving yourself"!! In other words in terms of getting better and making progress over a period of time..

For example...two people in the same job or in the same classroom can look like they are pursuing the same goal but one of them is really thinking about what they are doing in terms of proving they "are clever" and the other one is thinking in terms of "getting cleverer"..

The "Getting Better Mindset" is tremendously adaptive... because people who think about themselves in terms of improvement of "getting better over time"...find that they enjoy what they are doing more... they are far more  motivated and  they persist longer...

People with the "Be Great Mindset" are much less adaptable and deal with difficulties in a far less adaptive way..They are far more vulnerable when things get difficult because when you are trying to "Be Great" and things get difficult,  it s very easy for you to conclude that you are "not great"...that you dont have what it takes and that you lack ability..

Therefore, the "Be Great" Mindset can lead to a lot of Anxiety and a feeling of Helplessness... when things get challenging.. It can also undermine intrinsic motivation because when you are so focussed on getting validation from other people, it feels controlling and it undermines your interest and enjoyment in what you are doing.

However, if you take on the "Getting Better Mindset", you will find that you will steadily improve,  do better and find your goals enjoyable, rewarding and engaging...

Sooooo.... what Mindset Are You going to Create For Your Life?  Are you going to "Be Great" or are you going to be "Getting Better"?

The Choice is Yours!

How Much Do You Believe in Yourself?

How much do you believe in yourself?  Believe it or not...self belief is a really powerful tool for success.

The more you believe in yourself, the more confident you will be to step out of your comfort zone in order to meet people and interact on a confident and self-assured personal and professional level.......

Sooo.....Does Your Handshake Speak Loud and Clear about Your Self Belief?

The more confident you are in yourself, the firmer your handshake will be!  A firm handshake radiates healthy self-belief and self-confidence!

How is your Posture?

Do you stand straight and tall? - Are you proud of what you have to contribute?  Is your posture and body language an unconscious mirror reflecting back to others how confidently you feel about yourself in not only business but in your personal life also?

Sooo...Why not make an effort to stand up straight so your self-belief colours can be read even from far away across the room!!

Do You speak Confidently So You Can Easily Be Heard and Understood?

Do you enunciate your words and project your voice?  This will speak volumes about your self-belief! The more you believe in yourself, the more you consciously and unconsciously believe you have something worthwhile to say and the result will be that what you say will want to be heard!!!

Sooo.. Don´t be afraid to speak up and out!!

Do You Make Direct Eye Contact?

There can be nothing more disrespectful during a one-on-one conversation than someone speaking to you as they are looking around the room.. Aren´t you important enough for their undivided attention? Direct eye contact is unconsciously and consciously saying to me that you respect me and what I have to say...

Soooo..Treat every person you meet today like they are the most important person in the world!!

Ask them questions and then really listen to their answers.  Strong self-belief allows you to place the spotlight on other people by asking questions about their interests and talents.  How is this a sign of healthy self belief?  Asking questions and then listening respectfully to the answers, is a clear indication that you are confident and secure enough in yourself to have a genuine interest in others!!

Remember....If you feel your own self-belief is not as good as it could be...Create Time For Your Life from today and start "acting as if" you have undoubted belief in yourself...you`ll be amazed at the results!!

"Act As If" You Have Undoubted Self Belief!!

How Good A Listener Are You?

Are You Really Listening?

One thing about being a Coach is that we need to be good listeners....

We aren´t born this way...that´s for certain! Like most things in life, we have to train ourselves to reach our potential in this area!!  However the benefits of really listening to people are something that we can all benefit from..
Sooo... How good a listener are YOU?
Are you hearing people....but not really listening at all?  This is as good as ignoring them!!

Are You Only Hearing but Not Listening?

Or are you looking at your colleague/client/friend...and making encouraging noises like “uh huh..yes..yes..”

This could mean that you are one of the great pretenders!!

"Uh huh...yes..yes.."
Perhaps you are only being a Selective Listener.. Choosing to "switch on" only when you feel you have something to offer?

You will be doing slightly better if you are paying attention and focussing your energy on the words that are being said...this is called “Attentive Listening”...however, you are still not really “with them”  yet!
Attentive Listening

What we all want to aim for is “empathetic listening” - listening with intent to understand, emotionally and intellectually...getting right inside the other person´s frame of reference..

Empathise

A Coach aims to go one step further ....we try to listen to our clients from a place of total detachment from our own needs, perspectives and thoughts

We also detach ourselves from pre-judging the person we are listening to...
No Pre-judging..

Sooo...Why not Create Time For Your Life Skills from today and remember how you feel when you think someone is not really listening to you.....and...start training yourself to do the opposite!!
