21 Habit Challenges for 21 Days

Do you know that it takes about 21 days to form a habit? This requires practice and determination. Getting started is the trick.. especially if you want to change an old habit into a new one. This is why giving yourself a challenge for a minimum of 21 days is a great way to improve all areas of your life.  Soooo....Try taking a moment to think ‘Who do I want to be in 3 years?’ What kind of habits would you like to have? Do you want your new habits to influence your lifestyle and consequently your life ? If the answer is yes...then join me and start today!

Below i have listed 21 Challenges! Now pick one or more challenges and stick with them!  Keep a log, challenge your friends and stay inspired!

Be aware though that picking too many challenges at the same time can easily result in a failure of all of them.

21 Day Habit Challenge

Write an "I-Like-This-About-You" note/text/email each day for someone (Level 1)

We are so often focused on the negative stuff that we forget to mention the good. By sticking to this challenge,You surely will make people’s day, 21 days in a row!

2. Talk to one stranger each day (Level 3)

This is a great one to Knock anxiety on the head! Have you ever resisted the temptation to talk to someone because you were afraid and said to yourself that you actually don’t want to talk to her/him anyway? Not anymore! After 21 strangers you will understand people are just people and there’s nothing weird in speaking to someone you don’t know.

3. Re-evaluate one long-held belief each day (Intermediate)

Questioning your own beliefs is a great way to rid yourself of bullshit while continually adapting to new knowledge you’ve taken on since putting old beliefs together.

4. Take a 30 minute walk each day (Easy)

Walking is healthy, relaxing and inspiring. And it is both easy and free! A great exercise while walking is to observe other people and think about what the differences and similarities are between you and them. This will definitely increase your empathy and your observing skills!

5. Try a new recipe each day (Level 2)

If you want to learn how to cook you need to practice, practice, practice. Forcing yourself to try a new recipe each day is a great way to learn of more techniques and ingredients. It also makes it easier to drop bad food habits you might have and turn them into healthy ones!

6Refrain from alcohol or drugs for 21 Days! (Depends!)

Do you have a social circle where there hasn’t been a sober night out for years? Can you try to have fun without ingesting chemicals to alter your doors of perception? This is a great challenge to learn how to stand up for yourself against peer pressure.

7. Write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days (Level 3)

Ever wanted to write a book? Do it. Do it in 21 days.

8. Watch a documentary each day (level1)

Always wanted to know everything about a certain topic? You are in luck, it’s the digital era! There are more documentaries online than you can possibly watch in a lifetime. YouTube, Google Video, TruthTheory.org and TopDocumentaryFilms.com are some of the great sources.

9. Read a chapter of a book each day (level 1)

We all know we should be reading more often but somehow we are glued to the same computer screen you are staring at right now. Clicking buttons. The solution is to take some time each day to read one chapter. Just one. Easy right? Do it somewhere cozy or outside. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, turn on some ambient music.

10. Study a topic you’d like to master each day(Hard)

Always wanted to know everything about Animal Behaviour? Psychology? Physics? Philosophy? Educate yourself without school! Pick a topic, plan at least a lecture or an assignment each day and become a genius!

11. Media-fast for 21 days (Level 2)

Don’t watch any television and stop following the news. Limit yourself to reading a maximum of 5 blogs this whole month. Log out of Facebook, Twitter and StumbleUpon. Stop the information overload and try living simple. You will be amazed how much free time you have left!

12. Pick one bad habit you already have and ditch it for 21 days (Hard)

Are you a smoker? Do you like to see the negative side of things? Do you practice self-hate? Do you eat fast food? Do you play too many video games? Quit them for 21 days, and pick another challenge instead!

13. Inspire yourself each day (level 1)

Studies have shown that people who are inspired are happier, nicer, productive and will not stray away from their chosen path if life gets difficult. So print a quote and tape it to the mirror. Have an inspirational video as your starting page. Use an inspirational mantra for meditation. Get a principle to live by. In short, get your dose of inspiration each day!

14. Think of an accomplishment you’d like to achieve for each year of the next 21 years, a year each day. (Level 3)

This is great shock therapy. You can’t answer these questions without facing your life as it is right now and how it is likely to unfold. This one also gets harder progressively. It’s a great way to reflect!

15. Take the stairs every chance you get (Easy)

Take the stairs every chance you get for 21 days.  It is healthy, it doesn't look silly and it will add up over a lifetime :)
16. Keep a journal (Level 2)
Great for memory, reflection and especially satisfying to look back to in the future and remember the good old times when you did these challenges!

17. Don’t lie for 21 days (level 3)

This is quite the challenge. Stop deceiving yourself and others, speak from the heart. This one goes great with cultivating right intentions, because if you master that, there won’t be any need for lying!

18. Doing something that scares you every day(Hard)

Fear is the one thing keeping you from being the best version of yourself. The only way to overcome your fears is to face them head on!

19. Don’t complain for the entire day (Hard)

This one will likely take more than a few days to work up to achieving. Even if you’re a highly positive person, it’s difficult not to utter one negative sentence for a 24-hour span. Don’t be down on yourself if you can’t make it past an hour — as with everything this takes practice! This one is also great practice for becoming conscious of your thoughts.

20. Meditate each day (Intermediate)

Learn why you should meditate, learn awesome variations on meditation and enjoy..The best moments are just after waking up and just before sleep!

21. Practice (at least) one completely selfless act each day (Easy)

Go out of your way to help someone else out who may or may not deserve your kindness. Take out your neighbor’s trash. Give a few coins to a homeless person. Do something that takes real effort on your part while brightening the day of the receiver.
Ok...what is the date today? What is the date 21 Days from now?

Pick two or three challenges maximum and schedule them into your daily routine.

Good luck and keep me posted!!

Do you think you "Should" or do you know you "Can"?

Don't you sometimes find that all the stress you feel in your life at this moment is caused by arguing with "what is". This kind of thinking is just a way of wanting reality to be different than it actually is!

A lot of the time, the  only reason we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with "what is".

When our mind is perfectly clear, "what is" is what we accept in this moment.

Create Time For Your Life and start paying attention and you'll notice that you think thoughts like this all the time.

How often do you use the word SHOULD? Whenever the word 'should' shows up, that's what is going on. As in "I should be thinner, my friend should be
less sensitive, my spouse should be more attentive."

Wanting your reality to be different than what it is in this
moment, is just hopeless.  You could spend the rest of your life trying
to teach your dog to use litter tray...Just coz you think it "should" doesn't mean it "can"..

However this doesn't mean you can't try to create changes with certain things ...
Accepting "what is" doesn't mean you have to settle for the way things are, it
just means you give up all the "resistance" and inner struggle by "wishing" it were different.

So drop your "shoulds" and start asking "how can i"? And take Action!

How to get more organised and focused..

Is your mental energy freed  up to focus 100 per cent on the daily action which will take you in the direction of your dreams?

Well have you tried taking the time to sit down and list your short and long-term goals? Even if you are the sort of person who hates to do this...please trust me on this one.. If you don’t want to call them goals..then just name the three things that you want to have in a year's time and three things you want to have at the end of your life (ie: you would like written or said about you in your epitaph).

Organisation is really all about clarity. When you know what is most important to you, you can organise your time, space and life. When you know why you want it, it will take the distractions away.

Try prioritsing action steps that need to be taken each week in order to bring you closer to the above goals. Put them in order of what you really want to get done and what it would be nice to get done. Make this to-do list the night before. This will also help you sleep better.

Do you have a  list of the people in your family and life who you absolutely love and want to ensure that you are actively nurturing these relationships?

Well make sure you put them into your week to call, see or connect with as much as you can....Seeing them adds to your positive energy and actually fuels you up. List the people who you like to contribute to and make seeing them a part of your week as well. Lastly, list the ones that networking with will help in some way to enhance your work/career/brand.

Ensure you allocate time to each of these categories every week.

How s your personal space? Why not spend one day organising your desk, workspace, dresser, cupboards, drawers and your phone and computer. Delete, discard, and recycle what is no longer useful. When you know where EVERYTHING is, it will free up so much time.

Researchers say, "When your environment is cluttered, the chaos restricts your ability to focus. The clutter also limits your brain’s ability to process information. Clutter makes you distracted and unable to process information as well as you do in an uncluttered, organised, and serene environment."

Are you a delegator or a control freak? The only way to have balance in your life is to manage your time. If you give up the need for perfection in everything and you trust and allow other people to do a few things for you, you will free up a lot of time and hence be able to consciously create balance in your life. Good enough is better than nothing and perfectionism can be an obstacle. Allow others to do things for you by trusting that they will do them well if YOU take the time to communicate CLEARLY. Learn to make powerful REQUESTS and practice saying “no” often to what you don’t want to do.

Do you commit enough time each day to nurture your soul by plugging in or centering?
This is the time you sit in silence with yourself and you are still. Try watching  some videos on YouTube to help you do this better if you don’t already have your own practices. This will help you to find your inner balance. Having what you desire is not just about doing and taking action, it is more about who and how you are “being”.

Try the “see-be-do-have” model – you have to first see where you are and what you want clearly. Clarity! Only then can you “be” the person you need to be in order to plan and do the actions that iare required to have what you so want.

Step 1 to 3 help you to "see", steps 4 & 5 are both about "doing” and step 6 is about "being". To me," being" is the most important part, so take the time to sit with yourself, plug in, relax and allow your internal balance system to guide you forward.

Who Says You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks?

I bet your first thought as you saw the title of this blog was “I’ll read this later.”

Well let the urge to change to a new task pass you by and take a minute to read this right now. It’ll save you countless hours.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

1.Identify the most important thing you have to do today.

2.Decide to do just the first little part of it — just the first minute, or even 30 seconds of it. Getting started is the only thing in the world that matters.

3.Clear away distractions. Turn everything off. Close all programs. There should just be you, and your task.

4.Sit there, and focus on getting started. Not doing the whole task, just starting.

5.Pay attention to your mind, as it starts to have urges to switch to another task. You will have urges to check email or Facebook or Twitter or your favorite website. You will want to play a game or make a call or do another task.

6.But don’t move. Notice the urges, but sit still, and let them pass. Urges build up in intensity, then pass, like a wave. Let each one pass.

7.Notice also your mind trying to justify not doing the task. Also let these self-rationalizing thoughts pass.

8.Now just take one small action to get started. As tiny a step as possible.

9.Get started,

10.The rest will flow.
